Representing key scene
(the conch)
The conch, a key
scene. It is a key scene because it creates a sense of command and democracy.
Without the conch there would be no sense of rules or community, because of the
conch the group of boys are now able to have meetings to talk about and share
ideas. This scene is important because it kept everyone in check and not acting
like wild animals. " 'We can't have everybody talking
at once... I'll give him the conch... [and then] I'll give the conch to the
next person to speak. He can hold it when he's speaking.' " (P.31)
