Written Response-Lord of the Flies

Response Writing: Lord of the Flies

The quote by Christopher Reeve, “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strengths to preserve and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” is very fitting for the character Ralph in the novel, “Lord of the Flies”.  When the boys arrive on the abandoned island Ralph is chosen to be the leader of the tribe. The boys put all there trust in Ralph to keep them safe. Ralph is just a regular 12 year old boy, like the rest of them. He doesn’t have any extra knowledge on what to do out in the wild, without water, food, shelter, parents etc. However he gives it his all, and succeeds. Ralph made all the major decisions for the group  which was a important role. Ralph was put in a very overwhelming position but if he was never in a situation like that, he would never have figured out the strengths he has as a leader.
